DIY: A Marigold Garland

Processed with VSCOcam with p5 presetThe idea for this came to me after seeing pictures of marigold garlands from India’s Diwali festivals on Pinterest.  Diwali is a Hindu festival celebrated in fall and it signifies the victory of light over dark, good over evil.  There were thousands of marigolds strung and hanging all over people’s houses for the celebration.  I also saw a lot of these strands in Thailand when I went a few years ago to study-abroad.  Which makes sense because Hinduism is a popular religion in Thailand.

I happened to have some marigolds from the farmers market and since they were nearing the end of their life, I thought that this might be a good way to keep them around a bit longer.  It was a simple project and basically just consisted of cutting the flower heads and stringing them on fishing line with a needle.  It would be easier to use a long embroidery needle, but I managed with a sewing needle.Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset
